Jigra: A Solid Performance from Alia Bhatt, but a Flawed Film! !!

October 11 th, 2024
Rating

Alia Bhatt's latest film, Jigra, is a well-intentioned but flawed prison break drama that fails to fully capitalize on its potential. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, tells the story of Satya (Alia Bhatt), a woman who travels to a foreign country to rescue her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina) from prison.

Alia Bhatt delivers a strong performance as Satya, a fierce and determined woman who will stop at nothing to save her brother. Her portrayal of a woman who is willing to risk everything for her family is both compelling and heartbreaking. Vedang Raina also gives a solid performance as Ankur, although his character is somewhat underdeveloped.

The film's first half is promising, with a well-paced narrative and some tense moments. However, the second half loses its way, becoming increasingly convoluted and predictable. The prison break sequence, which should be the film's highlight, feels rushed and anticlimactic.

The film's biggest flaw is its lack of emotional depth. Despite the serious subject matter, the characters feel one-dimensional and the emotional stakes never feel particularly high. The film also suffers from some pacing issues, with the second half feeling overly long and drawn-out.

Overall, Jigra is a watchable film thanks to Alia Bhatt's strong performance. However, it's a flawed film that fails to live up to its potential. The film's lack of emotional depth and pacing issues ultimately hold it back.
