Earlier, we have seen numerous movies revolving around friends with the lead male star cast such as Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara etc. Now, Veere Di Wedding is a first big film which is starring lead female star cast such as Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. Four friends dealing with life, love, marriage and heartbreak isn’t a new concept. But what makes ‘Veere Di Wedding’ a unique concept is that here the pack of performers, is led by four ladies who make their own choices, stand by them and have the guts to live their life the they want. It’s inspirational to see a movie present its women characters, in not just a progressive light, but also with umpteen flaws and cracks. It gives them the freedom to make mistakes and move on and that’s the beauty of it. At first sight, Veere Di Wedding looks like an Indian version of American TV show Sex and the City, but it is an enjoyable film.
As per story, Kalindi Puri (Kareena) is a commitment-phobic woman in a relationship with Rishab (Sumeet Vyas). When Rishab proposes marriage and Kalindi unwillingly accepts, it sets the stage for a reunion with her childhood buddies Avni (Sonam), Meera (Shikha) and Sakshi (Swara). The story intro uces you to the four characters and sheds light on their complexities. Kalindi can’t come to terms with the idea of marriages and the other challenges that come with it. She’s just going with flow because she’s in love. Avni can’t seem to find a soul mate though her nagging mother (Neena Gupta) is desperately trying to find her an appropriate matrimonial match. Sakshi is a little too fiery to be tamed by relationships and Meera is married to a firang and they have a young child, but her marriage isn’t a cake walk either. While Kalindi suffers from an acute case of commitment-phobia, the three buddies too have their own set of problems and how the quartet deal with their issues over the duration of the wedding preps, forms the rest of the plot.
Kalindi’s story is at the center of it all and slowly other characters and their stories unfold. Kareena is evidently the main character of the story as the plot rotates around her and Kareena has done full justice to her character. Sonam has done a magnificent job while Swara and Shikha too have given able support. Sumeet Vyas is consistent enough in his decent act. The sizzling chemistry between the four leading ladies is an enjoyable and worthy to wtach.
Film ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is a pleasurable fare with the right amount of humour and dramatic sequences. The dialogues are quite captivating, refined and relevant and you will find yourself giggling in numerous scenes. All the scenes are quite arresting and lively.
In general, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is worthy to watch once for its entertainment quotient and decent performances by leading star cast.
