A stunning and gifted young actress who would later become a dazzling force in Bollywood, mesmerizing audiences and even making gravity envy with her grin and dance prowess, made her debut in the Hindi film business in 1983. Famous for her magnetism on screen, Meenakshi Seshadri shot to stardom on December 16, 1983, when her second film, Hero, helmed by Subhash Ghai, debuted.
The film won praise for the introduction of two new talents by Subhash Ghai: the experienced Jackie Shroff, who made his lead acting debut in Hero, and Meenakshi Seshadri. Seshadri fondly recalled the days of filming in an interview with a channel in honor of the movie's 40th anniversary.
The seasoned actress said that the whole film was excellent in every way. Speaking of the same, she further added, “It is hard to say that ‘this one single point is noteworthy’. The whole movie just worked in every which way. I cannot pinpoint one single thing. But I guess I can say that the romantic films that started with Kumar Gaurav and Vijayta Pandit (Lovestory) and Sanjay Dutt-Tina Ambani (Munim then), after that there was a lull period. Hero came with a power-packed impact on the audience.”
Both lead actors in the Hindi film industry gained tremendous acclaim and celebrity as a result of the film. Seshadri had only been in two films before, so this increased attention and stardom were entirely new to him. She revealed, “I expected a good response (to the film). But overnight success to the extent that I would have to stop going by the local to my weekend college classes, because people started recognising me, I didn’t expect that. Overnight I had to get my own car, driver and my own apartment. At the age of 21, I was set.”
