Veteran actress Saira Banu remembers Sagina, one of her favourite films, which came out in 1974. On Sunday, July 15, the seasoned actress posted a number of stills from the movie to Instagram. In a lengthy statement, she reflected on her late spouse Dilip Kumar. Saira Banu also discussed Dilip Kumar's mesmerising performance in the movie.

Saira Banu described Dilip Kumar's performance in Sagina as one of his "most spellbinding and enthralling performances" in a post on Instagram. She also fondly recalled the friendship between Dilip Kumar and Tapan Sinha, the film's director. The seasoned actress recalled an outside filming location where her husband had put up a badminton court for the cast and crew. She added that the team and the entire crew used to gather together in the nights to sing and joke.

Speaking of the movie, Saira Banu revealed that it was based on a real-life event in the labour movement. She described Dilip Kumar’s character Sagina Mahato as “an honest, aggressive and loveable character who was the first to fight against the tyranny of the British bosses in the tea gardens of Northern-Eastern India. Sagina becomes a Welfare Officer and brings about justice.”

Saira added that one of the movie's scenes was her personal favourite and wrote, “when Sagina who is a robust outgoing man, is sitting in his office absolutely bored and suffocated and then he steps out compelled to breathe the fresh air in the lush outdoors. Then he spots the coming of the train and exuberantly matches speed with the passing train.”

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's love tale is legendary. Together, they had a lot of joyful and painful times. Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar got married in 1966 when Saira was 22 and Dilip was 44. The renowned actor and they were partners for 54 years before his death in 2021. Saira Banu remained by her husband's side till his final moments.
