The 2009 film 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, was a huge hit with viewers. In addition to Boman Irani and Omi Vaidya playing significant roles, Rajkumar Hirani directed the movie. The Hirani-directed film had a serious point to make, but it did so in a funny way. Rajkumar Hirani is interested in developing the sequel, and he even has some ideas, according to Sharman, who was recently seen in the Kafas television series. However, the plans didn't turn out nicely in the end. Joshi expressed happiness at getting back together with Aamir and R Madhavan. He revealed, "Kitna maza aayega agar yeh hua toh." He continued, "Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) sir is aware of the love. And he doesn't want to disappoint the audience. He has shared a few ideas with me about the sequel. But when you ask him about it after a few months, he reveals that the ideas are not working out."
Sharman further added, "So he is keen to make it (the sequel). Whenever it will happen, we will enjoy working on it, and the audience will enjoy watching it."
Presently, Rajkumar Hirani is working on Dunki with Shah Rukh Khan. It will hit theatres in December 2023.
