Madhura, the wife of later music great Pandit Jasraj, has passed away. The filmmaker died at the age of 86 early this morning (September 25) from age-related causes. Madhura Ji's final rites will be held at Mumbai's Oshiwara Crematorium at 4 p.m., according to their family spokesperson, Pritam Sharma.
Madhura, the daughter of famed filmmaker V Shantaram, married music master Pandit Jasraj in 1962. She is survived by two daughters, music director Shaarang Dev Pandit and television personality Durga Jasraj, as well as grandkids. The departed soul had a diverse profession, including that of director, producer, and writer.
Aside from that, she wrote other books, including her father's biography, V Shantaram: The Man Who Changed Indian Cinema, which details his extraordinary career as a classical musician with the Mewati Gharana. Madhura made history in 2010 as the oldest debutant director of a feature film, winning the Limca Book of Records award. She directed the Marathi film Aai Tujha Aashirwad, which included songs by Pandit Jasraj.
Madhura then directed a biographical short film about her husband, titled Sangeet Martand Jasraj. For the uninitiated, Padma Vibhushan recipient Pandit Ji died in 2020 at the age of 90 from a heart arrest.
Madhura ji and Pandit ji's lives and accomplishments are humbling, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and friends.
