The well-known playback singer
Udit Narayan, who was already in the news for kissing female fans during a performance in a video that went viral, is once again in the news for bad reasons. Ranjana Jha, his first wife, has filed a lawsuit against him this time, claiming that he has violated her rights and stolen her property. He denied any chance of a settlement when he recently appeared before the Supaul Family Court on February 21.
According to a media source, Ranjana Jha's lawyer, Ajay Kumar, stated that because of her advanced age and health issues, she would like to get back together with Udit Narayan. The veteran musician remained steadfast in his unwillingness to live with her, even after the court tried to bring the two together.
When Udit and Ranjana were married on December 7, 1984, their tumultuous past began. But after becoming well-known in 1988, he reportedly cut ties with her. After their arguments escalated in 2006, Ranjana went to the Women's Commission, where he allegedly pledged to give her financial support—including a flat—but then broke his word.
As a result, the family court received a new maintenance case. Narayan accused Ranjana Jha of trying to extort money and giving the court misleading information in his written defence.
A previous disagreement had been jointly resolved before the Bihar Women's Commission in 2013, he added, and he consented to a monthly payment of Rs 15,000, which was raised to Rs 25,000 in 2021. The artist also claimed to have gifted her jewels worth Rs 25 lakh, agricultural land worth Rs 1 crore, and a house worth Rs 1 crore.
As the legal battle intensifies, the involvement of the Human Rights Commission could deepen the singer’s legal complications.
