Actress Bhumi Pednekar has stated that her heart and career remain in India, despite the fact that many are drawn to the glamour of Hollywood. In spite of the growing trend of Indian celebrities pursuing opportunities abroad, Bhumi, who is the lead in the upcoming web series The Royals, co-starring Ishaan Khatter, recently discussed at the Waves Summit why she decides to work only in India.

“There’s none like India,” She spoke with passion. When Bhumi thought back on her time spent filming abroad, she stated it strengthened her conviction that India is the ideal location for her career. The sensation she experiences on Indian sets is what most appeals to her—"I feel safe, seen, and inspired," she said. The actress also highlighted the equal number of men and women employed in Indian films, praising the fair representation behind the scenes.

Bhumi's decision stems from her strong affinity for Indian culture and the types of stories she gets to participate in. She thinks that Indian storytelling has the ability to change people's perspectives and unite them. “If storytelling can shift mindsets and bring people closer, then we’re in a position of real power,” she expressed her gratitude for being able to help bring about that transformation in her native country.

Bhumi plays a resolute CEO who gains her position in a wealthy royal Indian family on the verge of bankruptcy in the film The Royals, which will debut on Netflix on OTT this week on May 9. Her character, who is initially an outsider, helps preserve the family's history by forming a strategic alliance with the prince (Ishaan Khatter) through marriage.
