If you are acquainted with Luv Ranjan’s type of youthful romcoms, you must know that they often represent young lovelorn men, who find themselves dancing to the tunes of manipulative girlfriends. Now, Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu ki Sweety revolves around a hapless victim of calculative ‘affairs’ and if you enjoyed the Pyaar Ka Punchnama movies, you are bound to enjoy this one. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is not just a youth film but it is a family entertainer.
Well-known Director Luv Ranjan (Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame) is back with his team of actors, Nushrat Bharucha, Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh in Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety. It is the story of a girlfriend and a friend fighting over the ‘possession’ of a man. I think, this would be perhaps the first misogynist attempt where even a man has been objectified in the process.
Film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a sweet and appealing affair that has emotional moments aplenty as well. Of course at the core of it the movie is a fun watch all the way. There are jokes, laughter and gags right through the narrative as Sonu (Kartik Aryan) is protective of his childhood friend Titu (Sunny Singh) who is gearing up to get into an arranged marriage with Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha). There are plenty of funny moments thrown around, particularly with veteran actors Alok Nath and Virendra Saxena bringing on a bromance of their own.
About the film, it has the emotional track, especially towards the last 20 odd moments. Usually, movies end up falling flat due to unexpected shift in the tale when they move on from being funny to emotional. But in case of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety it turns out to be strength as you look forward to how the movie would conclude and the manner in which it actually happens is something really appropriate and reasonable. The best part about Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is that the pace of the movie never loosens and there are around six-seven songs that fill in the storyline at just the right moments. Each of these songs has its perfect place in the movie and is also picturised quite extravagantly.
About the acts, Kartik makes the most of his meatier part and steals the show. Kartik acts quite well and now, he is much more than just the Pyaar Ka Punchnama boy and can expressed his emotions really well. He dances well that makes him a whole entertainer. Sunny also does fairly well in the film and is apt for the part. Nushrat is beautiful and she is very good in her act. Furthermore, she also looks pretty good in her dance performances. Ishita’s capable act is delightful.
But, what doesn’t work for the film is its duration. Stretched for almost 2 hours, 20 minutes, the Sonu vs Sweety battle, several songs and dialogues keep going in circles to the point of being unexciting.
Overall, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is praiseworthy film due to its family entertainer quotients.
