In an age where cosmetic enhancements are increasingly prevalent in the entertainment industry, filmmaker
Mohit Suri has made a refreshing revelation about his casting philosophy for his latest romantic drama,
Saiyaara. The director, known for his emotionally charged narratives, revealed that a key requirement for casting his female lead, Aneet Padda, was her untouched, natural beauty.
Suri, who has introduced several fresh faces to Bollywood, opened up about the extensive search for the female lead opposite debutant
Ahaan Panday for
Saiyaara. He shared that it took him a painstaking four to five months to find Aneet Padda, precisely because he was looking for someone who "hadn't done anything cosmetically to her face or body."
"That was a major requirement," Suri stated in a recent interview. "Not only that, I needed someone who felt real, someone who hadn't done something to themselves." He emphasized the rarity of finding such natural talent in today's industry, especially among young actresses in the 20-22 age bracket.
Aneet Padda, who portrays the role of Vaani Batra in
Saiyaara, caught Suri's eye during auditions, impressing him with her raw acting prowess. "She was brilliant at it," he affirmed. The director noted that Padda's ability to embody the character of a "Punjabi girl from Amritsar, from a middle-class family" naturally resonated with his vision.
Before
Saiyaara,
Aneet Padda had made an impression with her role in the Amazon Prime Video series
Big Girls Don't Cry and a small appearance in
Salaam Venky. Her natural screen presence and emotional depth were also noticed by other prominent directors like Anurag Basu and Kunal Deshmukh, who had previously shown interest in her. Yash Raj Films' casting director, Shanoo Sharma, also highly vouched for Padda's talent, further solidifying Suri's decision.
Mohit Suri's emphasis on natural beauty and raw talent for
Saiyaara highlights a potential shift in casting trends, favoring authenticity over artificial perfection. This deliberate choice seems to have paid off, with
Saiyaara receiving positive reviews for its emotional depth and the compelling performances of its debutant leads.
The film, which opened to an impressive box office collection, has been praised for its fresh pairing and genuine chemistry between Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Suri's commitment to finding an actress who truly fit the character, both in terms of appearance and performance, has evidently contributed to the film's success and Aneet Padda's memorable debut. Her portrayal of Vaani has resonated deeply with audiences, establishing her as a promising new face in Bollywood.
