Following its successful run at multiple international film festivals, Sanya Malhotra is now prepared to introduce her film, Mrs., to the Indian audience. The movie shows how a woman who is married to a successful guy struggles to express herself and find her voice while juggling the irrational expectations of society. The actress claimed in an interview that the plot of her movie is triggering certain people. However, she is aware of others who have had comparable difficulties to her character.

Mrs., directed by Sanya Malhotra, had its debut at a number of international film festivals. At the 2024 New York Indian Film Festival, she also took home the 'Best Actress' prize for her role in the drama film Aarti Kadav. As she discussed her role and narrative, the Jawan actress said, “Some are feeling triggered, some are feeling emotional that it's their story.”

She also disclosed that this was the same rationale behind their adaptation and personalization of the movie. Sanya claims that her portrayal of Arati made it really personal by drawing on her own life experiences. “I know people around me, including a close friend, who have faced similar challenges as Richa,” Malhotra revealed.

The Great Indian Kitchen, a Malayalam drama released in 2021, is officially remade in this film. The Pagglait actress revealed in the same interview that he had already seen the movie about her. She was able to relate to the character more as a result. “The idea was to make the film more palatable for the North Indian audiences,” she revealed.

The actress went on to say that although though she was unable to speak with Nimisha Sajayan, who portrayed her part in the Malayalam drama film, it felt pertinent because so many women could identify with it. The film tells the story of a dance teacher and skilled dancer, as well as her life after marriage, for the uninitiated.
