For months, speculation has run wild about a potential
Shaktimaan revival, with whispers linking Bollywood superstar
Ranveer Singh to the iconic Indian superhero. From playing the titular role to even producing the project, the rumor mill has been in overdrive. However, the truth is now out:
Ranveer Singh is NOT producing the Shaktimaan project.
Amidst recent reports from various media outlets suggesting Singh had acquired the rights to develop a new Shaktimaan series or film, his official team has issued a categorical denial, setting the record straight.
The Official Word: "No Truth to These Reports"
In a statement released today (May 30, 2025), Ranveer Singh's management clarified, "The news about Ranveer Singh acquiring rights to develop a new superhero (Shaktimaan) project as the producer holds no truth. He is currently busy shooting for Aditya Dhar's next, and then Don 3 is also on the cards for him."
This decisive statement puts an end to months of swirling rumors, which were partly fueled by comments from Mukesh Khanna, the original Shaktimaan actor and creator.
Mukesh Khanna's Past Claims and Ranveer's "Interest"
Mukesh Khanna, who portrayed the beloved superhero in the highly popular Doordarshan series from the 1990s, had previously stated that Ranveer Singh had shown a keen interest in playing Shaktimaan. Khanna even recounted a three-hour meeting arranged by Sony, where Singh reportedly tried to convince him that he could embody the superhero.
However, Khanna also voiced his reservations, suggesting that while Singh is a "terrific actor" with immense "energy," his demeanor might not be the right fit for Shaktimaan. Interestingly, Khanna had even floated the idea of Singh playing the iconic villain, Tamraj Kilvish, instead.
Who is Really Bringing Shaktimaan Back?
While Ranveer Singh is out of the production picture, the Shaktimaan film project is indeed in the works. Sony Pictures International Productions is set to bring the beloved superhero to the big screen as part of a trilogy. They have partnered with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited and Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International to revive the magic for a new generation.
Reports suggest the film will be headlined by "one of India's major superstars," though the actor's name has not been officially confirmed. The movie is expected to commence shooting in May 2025, with a potential release date in 2026. Basil Joseph is reportedly set to direct.
Ranveer Singh's Jam-Packed Schedule
The clarification from Ranveer Singh's team aligns with his known professional commitments. The actor is currently filming for Aditya Dhar's upcoming action thriller, Dhurandar, and is also slated to begin shooting for Farhan Akhtar's highly anticipated Don 3 in the latter half of the year. His recent appearance in Rohit Shetty's multi-starrer Singham Again further highlights his busy schedule.
So, while the dream of Ranveer Singh donning the iconic Shaktimaan costume as a producer or actor may remain just that – a dream for now – fans can rest assured that India's beloved superhero is indeed making a comeback under the watchful eyes of Sony Pictures and Mukesh Khanna himself.
