In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi,
Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan Suman recently shared the screen. The father-son team on Netflix received a lot of praise. But there was a period of time when his son wasn't employed enough.
He gave Adhyayan some advice, telling him to learn from the careers of actors like
Ananya Panday,
Deepika Padukone, and
Katrina Kaif.
Following Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar's enormous success, Shekhar Suman and his actor son Adhyayan Suman have been quite busy doing interviews together. The two celebrities discussed their acting careers and how Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first TV series was a turning point at a media chat.
Adhyayan was further informed by Shekhar that many celebrities also experienced failure. Using
Katrina Kaif as an example, he remarked, “Take a cue from other people’s journey. Look at
Katrina Kaif. When she came in Boom and all, she couldn’t stand, say her lines, or even dance, but look at where she reached. Look at her performance in Raajneeti and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. Even in Dhoom 3, you could never say that she is the same girl who had started like that. It happens to the best of people.”
He went on to say that
Deepika Padukone developed into a stunning actress. “Ananya Panday used to go through a lot of trolling until Kho Gaye Hum Kahan happened. So, you have to take it on your chin with a pinch of salt and a sense of humor,” the Bhoomi actor further said.
Adhyayan also mentioned the unfavourable critiques Sharmin Segal received for playing Alamzeb. According to the Himmatwala actor, he is a perfect example of someone who has been "written off as a failure" and a "guy who doesn't want to work."
But as of today, he has arrived “to the point where in a relatively smaller role in front of these great actors, as part of a show, I still stood out. You have to understand that for an actor, that’s a massive learning.”
After launching his career in 2008 with Haal-e-Dil, Adhyayan experienced success with Raaz: The Mystery Continues, his follow-up picture. Speaking about playing important parts in his early films, the actor expressed, “I began my career being the hero of all my films, and then the poster size kept getting smaller and smaller. I know how much that hurts. Now the fight is to make it bigger again; that’s the whole journey.”
Adhyayan Suman played young Zulfikar and Zoravar Ali Khan in Heeramandi, while Shekhar Suman played Khan Bahadur Zulfikar Ahmed.
